Education
- Before becoming a coach, Jess spent 13 years as a speech-language pathologist in the public school system, working with children and young adults ages 3–21. She holds a bachelor's degree in Public Relations with a minor in Political Science and a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Bio
Coach Jess is a stay-at-home mom, CrossFit coach, and proud member of the 4 Arrows community. She grew up in Logan, attended Good Hope, and now lives in Cullman with her husband Trent and their three kids—Parks (11), Ellie (9), and Sam (5).
Outside of the gym, Jess loves baking, gardening, embroidery, and singing on her church praise team. She’s fueled by Coke Zero and homemade baked goods (her self-admitted Achilles heel).
Her CrossFit Journey
Jess discovered CrossFit in 2018 after seeing videos on social media—the combination of lifting and gymnastics looked fun, and once she tried it, she was hooked. What started as a way to improve her health quickly became a passion. Over the years, she’s navigated real challenges: a back injury from a rig fall in 2019 that required patience and persistence, and continuing to train throughout her pregnancy in 2020. Both experiences taught her that progress isn’t always linear and that listening to your body is just as important as pushing through.
Today, Jess is stronger at 40 than she was at 30—and she’s determined to keep that trend going. She loves setting goals, celebrating progress, and showing her kids the value of hard work and consistency. Benchmark workouts like Fran and Grace are her favorites because they tell a story: where she started, how far she’s come, and what she’s still chasing.
What She Loves About Coaching
Jess became a coach because she loves helping people grow. What she enjoys most is helping athletes see potential in themselves they didn’t know was there—whether it’s their first box jump, their first pull-up, or a long-awaited PR. “Sometimes athletes are capable of much more than they realize,” she says. “The best part is seeing the excitement on someone’s face when all their hard work finally pays off.”
Her coaching philosophy is simple: progress over perfection. She believes in helping athletes move well, work hard, and celebrate every win along the way. Her goal is for every athlete to leave class feeling seen, supported, and successful—challenged appropriately and celebrated for their effort, not just their performance.
Why 4 Arrows Is Special to Her
“What makes 4 Arrows special is the people,” Jess says. “From the moment I walked through the doors, I found a community that was welcoming, supportive, and genuinely invested in each other’s success.” For her, 4 Arrows is more than a gym—it’s a place where friendships are built, confidence is developed, and people are empowered to become the best version of themselves.
