- Jason is a retired military veteran who brings discipline, resilience, and a steady presence to the coaching team at 4 Arrows. A Cullman native who now lives near Smith Lake, he has been coaching at 4 Arrows for the past nine months. Before that, he spent 23 years serving in the military, including work in military police, building the kind of grit and commitment that now shapes the way he approaches fitness and coaching.
Bio
Jason found CrossFit almost by accident – a friend invited him to drop in, and from that first workout, he was drawn in by the unknown. The constant variety, the challenge, and the opportunity to keep improving were what grabbed his attention and kept him coming back.
Like many athletes, his journey has not been without obstacles. Jason has had to work through poor mobility along with knee and shoulder issues, which gives him a real understanding of what it feels like to face setbacks and still keep showing up.
That is a big part of what motivates him today: improving his overall health, continuing to get better, and investing in himself. As Jason puts it, you are your own investment.
Fitness has taught him to focus on what he can control. His mindset is simple but powerful: if you can get the small things right, the big things will happen naturally.
What He Loves About Coaching
Jason was inspired to become a coach because he knows the struggle and wants to help others through it. What he enjoys most is seeing someone overcome an obstacle they once thought would hold them back. Whether it is a movement, a mindset hurdle, or simply learning to trust the process, he loves watching people realize they are capable of more than they thought.
His coaching philosophy reflects the way he lives: you get out what you put in. He wants members to feel like they are getting better with every class, even when progress does not feel fast or life throws setbacks their way. He also hopes to lead by example, both inside and outside the gym, by showing what consistency and effort can build over time.
Why 4 Arrows Is Special to Him
What makes 4 Arrows special to Jason starts with the people – Brandon, Cecily, and Marrissa – and extends to the entire community they have built. For him, this is a place where people do more than just work out together. They walk through life together, celebrating the good and supporting each other through the hard.
That sense of connection is what makes being part of 4 Arrows meaningful to him. It is not just about fitness – it is about being part of a community that grows stronger together.
Outside the gym, Jason enjoys scuba diving, fishing, and spending time at the lake. His go-to healthy meal is fish and rice, but if he is reaching for a treat, it is an Alani and Reese’s.
